What really happens when Mom says she’s going to bed

Mom: “Good night…I’m super tired. Gonna go to bed.”

Also Mom: (thinking) Wait, did I turn off the oven? Better make sure. (checks oven) Yep, oven was off. Gotta turn on the outside lights. And make sure the door is locked.

Might as well run the dishwasher because it was nearly overflowing. And I’ll just hand wash these few pots so they’re not sitting out overnight.

Oh wow, I really have to pee! I’ll just do that and then head up to bed.

Who left the bag of trash and recycling by the back door? Ugh. Gotta take that out and put them in the containers.

Hmmm, I’m thirsty…quick drink before I call it a night.

“Mom…can you take a quick look at this paper?” (takes “quick” look, meaning proofreading give pages.) And then checks her calendar to get a feel for what the day holds tomorrow.

Oh no! I forgot to transfer the clothes from the washer to the dryer. Did they sit too long? No, they smell fine. (puts clothes in dryer and starts dryer).

Mom finally goes upstairs and begins her nighttime routine. Changes into pajamas, washes face, applies eye cream, face serum and face cream. Flosses teeth, brushes teeth and puts all her products away.

One last trip downstairs to get water for the mini humidifier in her room. Glances at her husband watching TV, smiles.

Husband: “Didn’t you say you were going to bed like an hour ago?”

And that’s what happens when Mom says she’s going to bed.
