I think Disney knows more about everything than they lead on. Sure, it could be my own conspiracy theory and all but what if they knew about how 2020 would go long before it happened – and put it in a princess movie? 

When I was doom scrolling on Facebook recently and completely putting off other things that actually had deadlines and you know, important things I should have been immersed in, I saw a screenshot of a text message that said: 

Person 1: Wanna know something weird?
Person 2: What
Person 1:  Know the movie tangled
Person 2: Yes?
Person 1:  Her mom keeps her quarantined, right
Person 2: Yea?
Person 1: Google the name of the kingdom in tangled

Well, you can probably guess what I did in that moment because I have zero self-control about getting my actual work done. I should also note that when I Googled, I saw that this enticing piece of information about the movie and 2020 had been noted months ago but hey, I noticed now so this is when the post is being written.

But hang on – for all of you who don’t know about the movie, Tangled, it’s essentially the story of Rapunzel, the golden-haired beauty with magical long hair. A mean old lady kidnaps Rapunzel at birth from her adoring parents and raises her in a tower, never lets her out for any reason, says the world is super scary and all that. But a floppy-haired dude named Flynn Rider eventually scrambles into the tower and long story, short, Rapunzel finally figures out she was kidnapped, her and Flynn live happily ever after, mean lady dies. 

Also, Tangled came out in 2010. An entire decade ago.

My kids love that movie and I don’t hate it as much as other Disney princess ones so it does play often in our house. Yet I never noticed the name of the kingdom. 

The name of the kingdom where Rapunzel is from and from which her evil kidnapper old lady is quarantining her is called Corona. 

If you’re at all familiar with the first song in the movie, “When Will My Life Begin?”, it’s also eerily relatable for 2020 since it is literally all about what Rapunzel does all day in quarantine: 

And so I’ll read a book
Maybe two or three
I’ll add a few new paintings to my gallery
I’ll play guitar and knit
And cook and basically
Just wonder when will my life begin?

And for the first time ever, I can relate to a Disney princess.
