Dear Congress, “Awoman” is not a word and stop trying to make it one

When the 117th Congress convened this morning, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the daily prayer was said by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) and this is how he ended it:

“And dare I ask, oh Lord, peace even in this chamber now and evermore,” Cleaver said while serving as guest House chaplain. “We ask it in the name of the monotheistic god, Brahma, and god known by many names by many different faiths. Amen and awoman.”

“Awoman”? What in the world is that?

“Amen” means “so be it”. It has nothing to do with gender. Literally nothing. This Congressional representative made up his own “truth”. And lots of people voted him and all the other questionable legislators into office who support this nonsense.

Our new partner, Abby Johnson, released a short video this morning on truth and why we should never, ever compromise. Culture today is completely backwards and people make up their own truths every day to the detriment of their families, loved ones, and communities. Even those we love have, at some point, asked us to compromise on the truth.

Abby says that, “Truth is not subjective. Truth does not change. It always is, it always was, it always will be.”

These members of Congress who make laws for our country habitually ask Americans to compromise on truth.

“They are going to try to convince you this is done out of love, acceptance, whatever…It’s so dumb except they are serious…the people who voted for these people in Congress are all around us.”

The thing is – truth cannot be compromised. It’s just the truth, end of story. If 2020 is any indication, people of faith will be asked to compromise in big ways. We cannot do that. We cannot turn away from the truth and towards ridiculous notions of what others say that ‘truth’ is.

Abby makes this request:

“I’m asking all of you to stand up for your convictions. Stop being the silent majority and start being bold. Amen.”
