In a story appropriate for Valentine’s Day, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, announced that their son, Archie, would be a big brother.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple told PEOPLE.
The couple announced the good news through sharing the black and white photo above taken by their friend and photographer Misan Harriman.
In a New York Times oped last November, Meghan heartbreakingly shared she had suffered a miscarriage the previous summer:
After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.
I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second….Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few.
So many women understand exactly where she is coming from and have experienced the loss of a baby. If they become pregnant again, the pregnancy can be filled with days of endless waiting and trepidation. We hope and pray for all women and their partners who have experienced this pain and hope and we wish Harry and Meghan all the very best as they prepare to add to their family.
